Normal Skin Concerns

This is the most balanced skin and also the rarest one. Not many women have this kind of skin. What it means is no oily spots or dry patches. Normal skins don't break out or have pimples. The skin is of normal texture.

Combination Skin Concerns

This usually means either a dry face with oily T-zone or oily face with dry T-zone. The T-zone is the area across your forehead and down your nose which forms the letter T.

This is the most common skintype. Use combination skin products or you can use two different creams, a richer one on the dry patches and a lighter cream on oily spots.

Dry Skin Concerns

Dry patches/flakes all over your face but especially on forehead and nose. Your face feels tight and stretched, you feel your face "pulling".

Drink more than the recommended 8 glasses of water per day. Water intake will hydrate your face and help keep dryness under control.  Also, be generous with deeply nourishing masks, these must become part of your weekly routine.

Oily Skin Concerns

Greasy, oily shine all over your face. Excessive oil production causes pores to clog leading to blackheads, pimples (if prone) and break outs. Try reducing greasy foods and switching to healthier options such as salad, protein and fruit. If your skin breaks out frequently, you should really consult a dermatologist and make sure any makeup product is water- based (try mineral makeups).

Think About It!?

In the early 1920's she got a tan while on a cruise aboard the Duke of Westminster's yacht. When she got home the color of her skin caused a fashion revolution. Who was she?

Coco Chanel. The Paris success of Josephine Baker also helped to promote the idea of brown skin as attractive and fashionable. Women's more active lifestyles in the 20's and ever-more-revealing fashions made tanning practical as well as fashionable.

What's Trending For Fall Makeup 2011

              Smoky Eyes-Bold Brows-Flawless Looking Skin-Bold Lip Color

Think About It: A Little Cosmetic History (an excerpt from WebMD)

From the copper and lead ore that the ancient Egyptians used to create the world's first cosmetics to the scientifically advanced products of today that can do everything from hide pores, smooth complexions, and turn the pale green of your eyes a vivid shade of emerald, makeup has been an integral part of humankind for thousands of years. Over the centuries, women used burnt matches to darken their eyes, berries to stain their lips and young boys' urine to fade their freckles. They even swallowed ox blood in some misguided attempt to improve their complexions.
Women throughout history put their health at risk with many of their homemade cosmetics. In some cultures, for example, women used arsenic, lead, mercury, and even leeches to give themselves the pale appearance deemed beautiful in the old days. Thankfully, we've come a long way from the days of using toxic and deadly mixtures to enhance our looks.

OMG.....thank God we have come along way from that! Makeup sounded painful back in the day!

Violence Against Women

In a very real matter, it still overwhelms me, the number on violence against women and young girls. The more and more I begin to dig deep, all the articles, books, counseling information with stacks and stacks of papers to read, all the different countries, nations, cities, communities and homes effected by this horrible act.
So much runs through my head and I begin to ask myself so many questions, like, Why do we put up with it? Why do we not fight back harder? These are our sisters, mothers, nieces, cousins, friends, co-workers.....just take a look around you and think about these statistics......

-For females 16-44 years of age violence is a major cause of death and disability.
-In 1994, World Bank did a study that reflected that ten selected risk factors facing girls and women of this age group found rape more dangerous than cancer, car accidents, war and malaria.
-Globally, 6 out of every 10 women face domestic and/or sexual violence in their lifetime.

Did you know.....that it actually cost out country money every time intimate partner violence occurs!
-A 2003 report from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimated costs in the U.S. alone exceeds US$5.8 billion per year.
-US$4.1 billion in direct medical and healthcare costs and US$1.8 billion in productivity loss (absenteeism)

Progress has been made however, in addressing violence against women and girls.....
2006 U.N. Secretary-General Report- In-Depth Study on all Forms of Violence Against Women
-89 countries have some legislation on Domestic Violence, growing numbers of countries have instituted national plans of action.
-Marital rape is a prosecutable offence in at least 104 states
-90 countries have laws on sexual harassment

Sadly to report however, a large gap still remains
-102 countries have no specific legal provisions against Domestic Violence
-In 53 Nations marital rape is not a prosecutable offence

But then again most people are just going to read these words and over look everything that has just been presented. I am choosing to fight back however, in small and big ways. That's why I'm dedicating myself to an important cause, m.powerment by mark. is dedicated to breaking the cycle of dating abuse and partner violence. Problem: Melting Make-Up

Tired of applying your make-up throughout the day, need to make it through happy hour.

Solution: The one thing you need to add to your a.m. routine, face primer, "It contains silica, which soaks up sweat and oil--the main culprits of migrating makeup," says makeup artist Brett Feedman. Apply and then proceed with foundation (oil-free), as well as blush, bronzer, and eye shadow (powders and mousses last longer than creams). Waterproof mascara and water proof eyeliner will hold to your lids, and lip stains are awesome because they stand up to anything.

What's Trending For Fall Fashion 2011

It's going to look like spring this fall, trending this season is the use of actual color. After many years of dark colors taking the spotlight, it's time to retire those colors, bright hues are in. Bright colors like red, green, blues and purples paired with neutral tones like beige and tan, it's really going to make the color, Pop! Anna Sui took shades of dark greens and reds but paired them with a neutral tone colors in a peaceful way to add balance.

Think About It: Women Business Owners

"According to a report issued by the Small Business Administration's Office of Advocacy, the number of women-owned businesses increased by 89 percent between 1987 and 1997, increased their revenues by 209 percent, and increased their number of employees by 262 percent. More than 50 percent of all new businesses being opened today are owned by women. Statistics from the National Foundation for Women for Business Owners show that women now own an estimated 40 percent of all businesses in the United States. The nation's 9 million owned businesses employ nearly 25 million people and contribute more than $3.6 trillion to the U.S. economy." (-The Girl's Guide To Power and Success By: Susan Wilson Solvic)

Just Think About It!!!

Violence Against Women

Domestic violence, also known as domestic abusespousal abusefamily violence, and intimate partner violence (IPV), has been broadly defined as a pattern of abusive behaviors by one or both partners in an intimate relationship such as marriage, dating, family, friends or cohabitation. Domestic violence, so defined, has many forms, including physical aggression (hitting, kicking, biting, shoving, restraining, slapping, throwing objects), or threats thereof;sexual abuseemotional abuse; controlling or domineering; intimidationstalking; passive/covert abuse (e.g., neglect); and economic deprivation. Alcohol consumption and mental illness can be co-morbid with abuse, and present additional challenges when present alongside patterns of abuse.
(Taken From Wikipedia)

According to the National Center for Injury Prevention and Control, women experience about 4.8 million intimate partner-related physical assaults and rapes every year. Less than 20 percent of battered women sought medical treatment following an injury.
In 2005, 1,181 women were murdered by an intimate partner. That's an average of three women every day. Of all the women murdered in the U.S., about one-third were killed by an intimate partner.
(Bureau of Justice Statistics)

Violence against women is a very real subject and it can happen to anyone. Not just physically but emotionally, verbally, sexually and even economically. In 2003, thirty six U.S. cities declared domestic violence as one of the number one causes of homelessness. Also, one out of every three homeless women is due to a women leaving a domestic violence relationship.
So many negative outcomes from domestic violence against women. So why do we continue to put up with it. We consider ourselves to be strong and independent, however when it comes down to it, we hide the truth from ourselves, only making the matter worse.
It is time, time to stop the abuse and FIGHT BACK!!!!!!!
We deserve better as women, but the only way to stop the violence to stand up and fight back. To be strong and let it be known our own stories.
I have been one of those women, for four years I was mentally, physically, emotionally, sexually and economically abused by a man who knew how to prey on my very soul. Several times I tried to leave, but being on my own and living very far away from my family, I had no support system. I started to believe there was no way out for me. In four years I ended up in a hospital 6 times. I started feeling the need to lie to everyone around me about what was really going on, I didn't want to be judged let alone become another statistic. Although I had already become a statistic, I never wanted to admit defeat. I recall one time trying to leave and having him throw me through a glass door. Eventually four years later after the birth of two kids, and the death of one of those two kids, before I was finally able to leave.
So here I am to call all women of all ages, races and backgrounds, it's time to fight back!!! To join hands and support one another. Time to take back control of our lives. It's time to empower.
